Our Story

What Motivates Us

We are a small breeder, and only have puppies available once a year or less. Presently, we have a litter that will be ready for adoption in late June 2021.

Our family's love for beagles began 20 years ago with our first pet beagle, Sigmund. A few weeks after we married, Christy and I, Christopher, purchased Sigmund, a beautiful tri-color beagle puppy, from a family breeder. That started a grand adventure. Sigmund, who lived with us in our newlywed apartment, had lots of energy and needed exercise. So, I took up rabbit hunting, and the rest is history. Sigmund taught me a new hobby, and after 2 seasons of solo hunting with Sigmund we added our second beagle, Lucy.

Lucy and Sig ran rabbits together for over a dozen years, and we welcomed 3 children into our family over that time.  Our middle son, Carter, has a love for the outdoors, and as Sig  neared retirement age, Carter picked out Victor, a handsome red-ticked beagle, from a litter of pups our friend Greg Duke had bred.  Sig and Lucy trained Victor, and in a symbolic passing of the torch, the first rabbit Victor circled to the gun was the last rabbit Sigmund ran before his retirement from hunting.

Unfortunately, Lucy became ill about the same time Sigmund needed to retire from hunting. When Lucy passed suddenly, we needed to find a new hunting partner for Victor. We again turned to Duke's Dogs and picked out a white, red, and red-ticked female with soft eyes and a cuddly demeanor to match. Anna is the quintessential hunting and companion hound. She has the scenting ability and aggressiveness to lead the pack in the field, but at home her personality is quite subdued and she loves to snuggle.

Twenty years later and still most every weekend from October thru February, the Grimes beagles are doing what they do best, while Carter and I follow along.

After two decades of enjoying beagles as house companions and hunting partners, we have begun breeding beagles to share the joy of beagling with others. Our beagles are the product of generations of careful breeding by our friend and fellow beagler, Greg Duke. Duke's Dogs are bread to do what beagles do best, use their nose to trail rabbits. They are bred to run medium speed with superior line control and are excellent hunting hounds. They also are excellent companion animals and pets.
